Event Description:
This study event accompanies the Courtauld Gallery51²è¹Ý¶ù Griffin Catalyst ExhibitionÌýSeurat and the SeaÌý(13 Feb- 17 May 2026).ÌýÌýExhibition curator and Senior Curator of Paintings at the Courtauld Gallery Karen Serres and Head of Short Courses Anne Puetz will explore several themes relating to Georges Seurat51²è¹Ý¶ù five painting campaigns on the northern coast of France between 1885 and 1890.ÌýÌýWe will discuss the artist51²è¹Ý¶ù affinity with this part of the Atlantic seaboard and his fascination with its atmospheric conditions and the artistic challenge it posed.ÌýÌýWe will delve into Seurat51²è¹Ý¶ù evolving neo-Impressionist technique, his interest in the industrialisation of the ports and the transformation of fishing villages into popular tourist destinations and discuss his artistic legacy.

Booking for online access remains open until the end of the exhibition (17 May 2026). The lecture recordings will be sent on Tuesday 28 March, or within five days for those booking after the 28th, and will be accessible for 8 days from delivery.
