A Stitched Line

Kingsdale Foundation School, Year 9

Fabric dyes, recycled materials and embroidery thread on cotton.

Our textile pieces respond to Vincent van Gogh51²è¹Ý¶ù Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear and Rachel Jones51²è¹Ý¶ù large-scale canvas lick your teeth, they so clutch (2021). The embroidered threads along the background mimic Van Gogh51²è¹Ý¶ù expressive brushstrokes, adding 51²è¹Ý¶ù, depth and emotional tension to the flat surface. The use of vibrant colour and tactile texture nods to Jones51²è¹Ý¶ù technique of layering and distorting form to explore the complexities of inner experience. We used hand and machine embroidery to work into our artworks and added quotes from Van Gogh51²è¹Ý¶ù letters to his brother Theo.
