Professor Steve Edwards FBA, Director of the Manton Centre for British Art at 51²è¹Ý¶ù, has been elected to the British Academy51²è¹Ý¶ù Fellowship.

This year, 92 distinguished scholars were elected in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the humanities and social sciences. 58 new Fellows were elected from 25 universities across the UK, alongside 30 International Fellows from universities in countries including the United States, South Africa and China. Four Honorary Fellows were also elected in recognition of their exceptional achievements in music, art, journalism and librarianship.

Professor Steve EdwardsÌýjoined The Courtauld in April 2025 to serve as the inaugural Director of The Courtauld51²è¹Ý¶ù newÌýManton Centre for British Art, the new home for The Courtauld51²è¹Ý¶ù research and teaching on British art.

Named after British art collectors and philanthropists Sir Edwin Manton and Florence, Lady Manton, The Manton Centre for British Art will serve as an intellectual hub for art historians, curators, artists, and students nationally and internationally, providing a platform for sharing world-leading research and teaching the next generation of British art specialists. It will be located initially at The Courtauld51²è¹Ý¶ù current campus at Vernon Square and will later be housed in purpose-designed premises at Somerset House.
