Wayne Thiebaud. American Still Life
This exhibition at the Courtauld Gallery is the first ever museum show of his work in the UK. It presents Thiebaud51²è¹Ý¶ù remarkable, vibrant and lushly painted still-lifes of quintessentially post-war American subjects, from diner food and deli counters to gumball dispensers and pinball machines. These are the paintings with which Thiebaud made his name in the USA in the early 1960s.Ìý
Sense of Self
Experience a vibrant selection of artworks created in response to Vincent van Gogh51²è¹Ý¶ùÌýSelf-Portrait with Bandaged EarÌý(1889) in the Courtauld collection, inspired by two new site-specific commissions by artist Rachel Jones.
Guided by the Courtauld51²è¹Ý¶ù Learning ream, students, families and community groups across the UK explored ideas of colour, texture and ‘sense of self’ to produce a diverse range of creative responses.

Some of Claude Monet’s most remarkable Impressionist paintings were made not in France, but in London. Explore Monet’s Thames series – depicting Charing Cross Bridge, Waterloo Bridge and the Houses of Parliament – full of evocative atmosphere, mysterious light, and radiant colour, brought together for the first time 120 years after their inaugural exhibition.

Permanent Collection
The Courtauld51²è¹Ý¶ù much-loved permanent collection ranges from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, including masterpieces such as Manet51²è¹Ý¶ùÌýA Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1883), Van Gogh51²è¹Ý¶ùÌýSelf-Portrait with Bandaged Ear (1889) and the most significant collection of works by Cézanne in the UK.
Located in the magnificent historical setting of Somerset House in London, experience all three floors of our remarkable collection.
Claudette Johnson: 51²è¹Ý¶ù
A founding member of the Black British Arts Movement, Claudette Johnson is considered one of the most significant figurative artists of her generation. For over 30 years she has created large-scale drawings ofÌýBlack women and men that are at once intimate and powerful.
Presenting a carefully selected group of major works from across her career, from key early drawings such as the arrestingÌýI Came to Dance,Ìý1982,ÌýandÌýAnd I Have My Own Business in This Skin,Ìý1982, alongside recent and new works, this exhibition offers a compelling overview of Johnson51²è¹Ý¶ù pioneering career and artistic development.

Reworking Manet

Reworking Manet,Ìýa live project brief was developedÌýby The Courtauld51²è¹Ý¶ù Learning teamÌýin collaboration with a group of young people and Turner Prize-winning artist and Courtauld alumnus, Jeremy Deller. It opened to UK wide submissions 2023.ÌýÌý

Van Gogh. Self-Portraits
Van Gogh. Self-PortraitsÌýtakes as its springboard Van Gogh51²è¹Ý¶ù iconicÌýSelf-Portrait with Bandaged Ear (1889), one of the most celebrated works in The Courtauld51²è¹Ý¶ù collection, and brings together around half of the self-portraits Van Gogh created during his short years as a painter.
This is the first time that the full span of Van Gogh51²è¹Ý¶ù self-portraiture has been explored in an exhibition. Several works in the exhibition were last together in Van Gogh51²è¹Ý¶ù studio and have never been reunited, until now.
